In the war-ravaged city of Aleppo, Syria, where the sky is often filled with the ominous presence of warplanes, there is a group of children who find solace and joy in a simple pastime: flying kites.
Led by 12-year-old Amir, these children gather on the rooftops of their damaged homes, their kites soaring high above the ruins below. As they watch their kites dance in the wind, they forget, for a moment, the horrors of war that surround them.
But their kites also serve as a poignant reminder of the fragility of life. One day, Amir's kite is shot down by a sniper. The children are devastated, but they refuse to let their spirits be broken.
With the help of a kind-hearted baker, they build a new kite, larger and more beautiful than the last. They fly it high above the city, a symbol of hope and resilience. The kite becomes a beacon of light in the darkness, a reminder that even in the worst of times, there is always hope.
'When Kites Were All We Had' is a story of loss, hope, and the resilience of the human spirit. It is a story that will stay with you long after you finish the last page. It is a story that will make you believe that even in the darkest of times, there is always hope.
