The Battle of Worcester

The Restoration

In 1660, Charles II was invited to return to England. The Parliamentarians had been overthrown, and the monarchy was restored. Charles was crowned king, and he reigned for 25 years.

Charles's reign was a time of great change for England. He introduced a number of reforms, including the Habeas Corpus Act, which protected citizens from arbitrary arrest.
