About the Author

Jessi Thompson is a survivor of Islamist militancy. She was kidnapped in the Sahara Desert in 2011 and held captive for months. She escaped in 2012 and has since written a memoir about her experience, titled Captured by Islamist Militants in the Desert. Thompson is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. She currently lives in the United States.
