Eddie Aikau, born on May 4, 1946, in Kahului, Maui, was destined for greatness on the waves. Despite their best efforts, the yacht drifted farther out to sea, and Eddie, being the strongest swimmer, volunteered to paddle his surfboard out to seek help. He was never seen again.
