In 1996, a group of six mountaineers attempted to climb Mount Everest. But when a blizzard struck, they found themselves trapped on the mountain, with no way to escape. A team of rescuers was sent to save them, but the mission was incredibly dangerous.

The rescuers had to climb through treacherous terrain, in the midst of a raging blizzard. And they had to do it quickly, before the climbers ran out of time.

The story of the rescue mission is one of courage, determination, and tragedy. It is a story that will stay with you long after you finish reading it.

The Climbers

The six climbers who were trapped on Mount Everest were all experienced mountaineers. They had climbed some of the highest mountains in the world, and they were confident that they could summit Everest.

The climbers were:

* Rob Hall, a New Zealand mountaineer who was leading the expedition * Scott Fischer, an American mountaineer who was leading a rival expedition * Beck Weathers, an American pathologist * Yasuko Namba, a Japanese climber * John Krakauer, an American journalist who was writing a book about the expedition * Andy Harris, a New Zealander who was a member of Hall's team

The Blizzard

On May 10, 1996, the climbers reached the summit of Mount Everest. But as they began their descent, a blizzard struck.

The blizzard was so strong that the climbers could not see more than a few feet in front of them. The wind was so strong that it knocked them off their feet. And the cold was so intense that it threatened to freeze them to death.

The climbers were forced to spend the night on the mountain, in the midst of the blizzard. They huddled together for warmth, but they knew that they could not survive much longer.

The Rescue Mission

The next morning, a team of rescuers was sent to save the climbers. The rescuers were led by Anatoli Boukreev, a Kazakh mountaineer who was one of the world's best high-altitude climbers.

The rescuers had to climb through treacherous terrain, in the midst of a raging blizzard. They had to cross crevasses, climb ice walls, and navigate through deep snow.

The rescuers also had to contend with the altitude. The air is so thin at high altitudes that it is difficult to breathe. And the cold can make it difficult to think clearly.

Despite the dangers, the rescuers were able to reach the climbers. They helped the climbers down the mountain, and they saved their lives.

The Aftermath

The rescue mission was a success, but it came at a great cost. Two of the climbers, Rob Hall and Scott Fischer, died on the mountain.

The survivors of the expedition were traumatized by their experience. They had witnessed the deaths of their friends, and they had come close to death themselves.

But the survivors also learned a great deal from their experience. They learned the importance of teamwork, and they learned the importance of never giving up.

The story of the 1996 Mount Everest disaster is a story of courage, determination, and tragedy. It is a story that will stay with you long after you finish reading it.
